Early 2025

As the owner of the Ring O’ Bells, I have seen first-hand how our little corner of the world has evolved over the 17 years we have been here, whilst maintaining our core values of what it means to be the village pub. The familiar faces, the stories exchanged over a pint & the sense of community. This is what keeps a village pub alive & thriving. With this blog, I want to share a bit of what it’s like behind the scenes at the heart of our village pub.

A village pub isn’t just a place to grab a drink or a bite to eat; it’s a meeting point for the entire community. On any given evening, you might find locals catching up on the day’s gossip, workmen winding down after a hard day’s work, or a family enjoying a meal out. What makes a village pub special is the variety of people it serves. We’re not just a pub; we’re a place where memories are made, friendships are forged & new visitors can feel right at home.

In many ways, a village pub acts as the social hub of the area. It’s a place where the local culture thrives, whether through events like quiz nights, live music, or simply welcoming the person who just moved into the area. The pub becomes a natural extension of the community, a place to celebrate weddings, mourn losses, and everything in between. Every pint served is a thread in the fabric that connects us.

Running a village pub also means embracing the seasons. From hearty winter stews to refreshing summer salads, the food on the menu reflects the changing year. Our approach is always focused on using local, seasonal ingredients to create dishes that our village & city is proud of. The pub’s atmosphere shifts along with the seasons too. When the first chill of autumn hits, the pub fills with the warmth of mulled wine & the comforting smell of a slow-cooked roast. When summer arrives, the outdoor seating area becomes the perfect place to sip a cold pint & watch the village go by.

Of course, running a village pub comes with its challenges. The unpredictable nature of weather, the ups & downs of the economy & the pressures of keeping the pub bustling each day brings new issues to deal with. But the rewards far outweigh the difficulties. The best part of this job is seeing regulars walk through the door with a smile on their face, knowing they are returning to a place they can call their own. And there’s nothing quite like the buzz of a packed pub, full of life and laughter.

As I look to the future, I’m excited about what lies ahead for our village pub. We continue to evolve, but we remain true to our roots. Whether it’s through new events, supporting local good causes or simply offering a warm welcome to all who come through the door, our mission is clear: to be the heart of the village for many years to come.

So, to all of you who have supported us through the years; “Thank You”! Your loyalty, laughter & friendship are what make the Ring O’ Bells truly special. Here’s to many more pints, stories & memories made!

Cheers, Ian
